The Long Haul

I’m looking forward to the 2+ hour drive to work on Thursday. I’ll pass through 3 different states just to get there in the morning. I’ll pass through those same states on my way home early on Friday.

And yet I don’t mind it, seeing as my husband will be with me. It’s sad just how much I look forward to these days. How date nights have become date commutes once a month on our way to the auction.

Some of our best conversations happen during that drive. All of our hopes, plans and dreams. Sometimes it feels like it’s the only time we really get to reconnect. Just once a month for 2 hours - and never on the way home when we are both exhausted and fighting to stay awake.

It’s so easy to forgot to be grateful for the life you do have. So tonight (and every night), I am incredibly thankful.
